In his large-format paintings, Julio Figueroa-Beltrán (b. Havana, 1984) imagines dream-like worlds where outsized creatures and flora seem to peacefully coexist with elements from modern life. In the canvases, wind turbines, highway overpasses, and astronauts intersect with galleons, icebergs, jellyfish, and tropical blooms; forests and wooden birdhouses meet military drones and theater stages.
Figueroa-Beltrán attended San Alejandro National School of Fine Arts (2003) and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) (2007) in Havana, Cuba. He has been invited to solo and group exhibitions in different cities of the United States and Italy. His work is in the collection of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, Florida International University, among other collections.
