Italian artist Patrizio Travagli chooses Coral Gables as the next stop in his touring exhibition, “Mirror, mirror on the wall”. The thought provoking art exhibit, featuring a selection of mirrors, encourages those peering into the mirrors to become the piece of art. It will be on display in the Community Meeting Room at the Coral Gables Museum from November 28th through December 9th.
“I strongly believe that arts and culture enhances our City’s international appeal and quality of life. Art projects like this one, which exposes our community to a foreign artist and culture, is enriching,” says Coral Gables Mayor Mayor Raúl Valdés-Fauli.
Enamored with the Mediterranean-styled architecture and international diversity found in the City Beautiful, Travagli selected Coral Gables his art exhibit’s next stop.
“Within the concept of mirror there is the idea of the reciprocity of being seen.
The reflection is therefore antinomy: the Other and the Same, Everything and Nothing, the Identity and the Difference. The mirror surface is the event horizon that allows this to happen; at the same time it separates and unites two worlds (simballo and diaballo) with the fascinating power of illusion”.
“The mirror holds a temporary memory, both of space and of the people that are reflected within it, that can be understood as being beyond the surface, on the surface or converging with our own space. (esoptron, énoptron, kátoptron)”.
