/in Uncategorized/by PlondonoCity Trekker Summer Camp 2018 offers 10 weeks of fun, educational activities for children ages 5-12, from June 11th through August 17th, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. City Trekker Summer Camp explores the City of Coral Gables through a variety of disciplines and takes advantage of the many cultural destinations and activities that The City Beautiful and the Museum have to offer. Through exhibits, special presentations, art activities and field trips campers will learn about art, nature, design, history and more!
Campers will also enjoy some splashin’ fun with a trip to Venetian Pool every session!
The Coral Gables Museum provides a safe place to create, play and learn. Campers will be grouped according to age. Shirts, field trip fees, and Friday pizza lunch are included in the registration fee. Family and friends are invited to join the campers every Friday at 4pm for Friday Finales, special presentations featuring creative projects and accomplishments from the campers’ week-long adventures.

MOTHER’S DAY CONCERT

Music for mom! Look no further than the Coral Gables Museum. The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble (DECE) will perform a variety of pieces selected specifically for Mother’s Day! The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble features Scott Flavin, Violin; Laura Wilcox, Viola; Ross Harbaugh, Cello; and José López, Piano. Come early for a 1pm guided tour of the Museum’s permanent exhibit “Creating the Dream: George Merrick and His Vision for Coral Gables.” Museum admission is included with ticket purchase. Soft drinks, wine and mimosas will be available for purchase.

The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble:
Completing its TENTH SEASON: The DEERING ESTATE CHAMBER ENSEMBLE (DECE) is comprised of founding members: José R. López, piano (Florida International University), Ross Harbaugh, cello (University of Miami), Scott Flavin, violin (University of Miami), and Laura Wilcox, viola (Miami Youth for Chamber Music-MyCM). This ensemble came together out of a mutual respect for nature and the beautiful Deering Estate with a love to perform chamber music, work with living composers, and interact with history, nature and other art forms. DECE have received numerous awards including the Met-Life Foundation/Meet the Composer and from Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs, and performances in New York City.
In its tenth season, the DECE ensemble is also celebrating its years performing together with new CDs by founding members including works by Juraj Kojs from his Composer Residency at the Deering Estate. This season, DECE members are looking forward to bringing music celebrated at the Deering Estate to other concert venues. Last season, Jose R. Lopez released a new CD with Toccata Classics: Alkan – Complete transcriptions, Vol. I (Mozart) which has been receiving raving reviews, including from the Sunday Times of the London Times. This season Lopez has released a new compilation of rare romantic piano works by Cuban composer: José Comellas.

Gables Bike Tour: : Fifth Annual Bike & BBQ

UHealth & the Lennar Foundation Medical Center presents the 5th Annual Bike & BBQ. Work up an appetite on this group ride from the Coral Gables Museum through our lush city streets to Matheson Hammock Park, a 1930s New Deal development that remains as Coral Gables’ largest public park. Enjoy the historic coral rock buildings, nature trails and picnic pavilions where we will reward ourselves with delicious grilled hotdogs and burgers (included with tour price). This is a long ride – 12 miles! Because of the length of this ride, it is not recommended for children under 10 years old.
Gables Bike Tours are presented by Coral Gables Museum and Bike Walk Coral Gables and powered by Whole Foods Market. Bike rentals and helmets (required for children under 16) are available at No Boundaries (305-444-3206), conveniently located across the street from the Museum at 220 Aragon Avenue. Approximately 3 hrs. $10; $5 for members of the Coral Gables Museum or Bike Walk Coral Gables and children under 12.

Join us for the last Lunch & Learn event of the season. Our Lunch & Learn series is open exclusively to members and their guests. New members are also welcome! Enjoy meeting fellow members and our special guest presenter in an intimate casual setting.
Today’s special guest is Jack Kardys, retired Director of the nationally accredited and Gold Medal Award winning Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces Department (MDPROS), one of the largest and most diverse park systems in the country with 270 parks on 12,800 acres of land. Mr. Kardys will present the exciting proposal to transform Rickenbacker Causeway into Rickenbacker Park, and explain how this innovative plan will enhance quality of life in Miami! This Lunch and Learn program series is open exclusively to Museum members and their guests. New members are welcome. Ticket price: $25. Lunch is included. Advance registration is required. SPRING CAMP: PAINT THE CITY BEAUTIFUL!

The City of Coral Gables becomes an outdoor art studio! Campers ages 5-12* spark their imagination, learn about the past, and form lifelong connections with The City Beautiful while creating works of art inspired by its history, architecture, and natural environment. City Trekkers participate in sketching and plein air painting sessions while visiting some of Coral Gables’ historic landmarks. They experiment with different materials, including graphite, charcoal and watercolor. Back at the Museum, campers will discover different art movements in the Cuban Art in the 20th Century, continue art making in the galleries, and prepare an exhibit of their own work!
*City Trekker Explorers (10-12 years old) develop their own portfolio through age appropriate studio activities.

Dump your car for a day and join the movement for a greener planet. The City of Coral Gables in partnership with Miami-Dade County’ s BIKE305, Bike Walk Coral Gables, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and the Coral Gables Museum wants you change your mode of transportation for one day on Bike to Work Day, Friday, March 3. Arrive early at 7:30 a.m. to the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue, for a free continental breakfast and giveaways. Enjoy an exhibit preview of “PLAN Z FOR MIAMI: From Infrastructure to Open Space.” Come back to the Coral Gables Museum on your bike from 6-10 p.m. for Gallery Night, free Museum admission and live music.
