This Land Is Your Land PD Workshop
Saturday, September 24, 9:00am-12:00pm
Objective: To engage with museum exhibitions and focus on strategies and activities that are standard-based for Environmental Science K-12 teachers.
This workshop will provide instruction aligned to the MDCPS curriculum with emphasis on STEAM education. Participants will engage in a hands-on water and climate change activity facilitated by Yvette Cano, education specialist at Everglades National Park. Participants will join a guided tour of “This Land Is Your Land: A Second Century For America’s National Parks” by guest curator and National Park Conservation Association representative Jacqueline Crucet. Participants will engage in a facilitated discussion session to explore all four of South Florida’s National Parks.
“This Land Is Your Land” celebrates America’s National Park Service as it enters its second century with a particular focus on South Florida’s four national park sites: Everglades, Biscayne and Dry Tortugas National Parks and Big Cypress National Preserve. Its purpose is to elevate awareness of our national parks with the hope of motivating action toward their continued protection. Experiential in approach, this exhibition presents natural and cultural objects, artwork and film to communicate the national park idea and experience.
